Ghost signs

There are a lot of these along Broadway and in other areas of the neighborhood. This one on the northwest corner of Broadway and Norwood looks to be an old promotion for Michelob, but it's hard to make out exactly what it says. Does anyone know?

Looks like it says Double Bubble.

The Double Bubble is a dive bar at 6036 N Broadway. "Michelob on Tap"

Google is my friend.

Awesome, thanks Areia. I didn't realize that particular bar was located right there.

Yeah the hanging sign out front and the window etchings that spell Double Bubble would never give it away. Are you brain dead? Awesome!

Wow, it helps to post anonymously if you're going to be so bitchy. I didn't realize the bar was called that either, but I did read about it on Yelp. I don't spend a lot of time studying the front of bars as I pass, apparently you do.

Anyway, there is a great website that chronicles the ghost signs of Chicago: http://www.artic.edu/~ndonoh/pages/indexpage.html. This was an idea I had had for a website, I was a little sad someone had beaten me to it!

The reason the paint lasts so long is the lead. In St. Louis there is an artist who repainting these signs i would love to do that here.

Sounds like someone's got a case of the Mondays.

Yeah, I recently moved here from South Carolina, and in my old town they started repainting some of those "ghost signs" that still remain. The results are pretty cool!

My dad's family grew up in the neighborhood and the "Dub Bub" has been around for years!
