Edgewater deli set to close

The Thorndale Delicatessen, an Old World Jewish sandwich shop which has been open in Edgewater since the 1950's, will be closing its doors for good tomorrow according to Crain's Chicago. The owner, J. Donald Shaw Jr., 65, tried to find a buyer for his business, but was unsuccessful due to the economy.

Noooo! I love their roast beef sandwiches and everyone is so nice! Damn, this sucks. Good luck to Mr. Shaw and his family.

I heard Rogers Park "used to be very nice about 20 years ago".

How are you going to bring it back Chicago?

I have patronized Thorndale Deli for over 30 years and am very sad to see it go. My sympathies lie less with the owner, who's quite well off, and much more with the wonderful people behind the counter - some who've been there for as long as I've been a customer. It's a very sad loss to the community.
